Two mornings in the Kingsville garden across the winter break. Children sow in the first week, then divide and pot up in the second, learning first-hand how a plant moves from a soil block to a garden bed.

Workshop 01
Soil blocking and seed sowing
Children make soil blocks by hand using a traditional soil blocker, sow spring seeds, and take a labelled tray home to care for on a warm windowsill through winter. Seeds sown in July will be ready to transplant in September.

Takes home
One standard seedling tray and one tray of 6–8 soil blocks, sown and labelled, plus a care card and extra seeds.
Workshop 02
Dividing plants: strawberries and feverfew
Children learn to identify runners and crowns, separate roots, and pot up divisions from the Kingsville garden. They learn why plants are divided, how to tell a healthy root from a stressed one, and go home with plants they divided themselves.

Limited to 6 children per session, and spots fill quickly. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, and children should wear clothes that can get dirty. Everything else is provided. Sessions are run under a valid Working With Children Check.
